Test the signal you will actually use

The strongest useful evidence is a repeatable task at a place that matters to you.

01

Prepare the test

Use the intended handset where possible and make sure Wi-Fi is not carrying the internet task. On a dual-SIM device, select the line being evaluated. Choose an ordinary task rather than spending an excessive allowance on repeated large downloads.

Try both an incoming and outgoing call, a text and a small upload. Include the location where reliable service is essential. A nearby outdoor result may not represent the room where you work.

02

Interpret the result

Good signal bars with slow data can indicate limited capacity. A phone working outside but failing inside can reflect the building. A failure on one application alone may not be a general mobile fault. Record the boundary of the problem.

A map predicts service under assumptions. Population reach is different from covering every road or field. Avoid turning a coverage percentage into a guarantee for a particular postcode.

03

Repeat fairly

Repeat at a different time and check for a known incident. When comparing services, keep device and conditions as similar as practical. Never operate the test yourself while driving.

Decide whether any recurring limitation affects an essential task. A good average experience may still be unsuitable when the one failed location is indispensable. No nationwide performance measurements are claimed by this site.

Put it into practice

  1. Disable Wi-Fi and select the intended SIM.
  2. Test calls, texts and one useful data task.
  3. Repeat at a busy time and note the result.
